About Bookkeeping Champs
Southern California’s Bookkeeping Firm Built Exclusively for Contractors
Why We Built a Bookkeeping Firm Exclusively for Contractors
Most bookkeeping services try to serve everyone — restaurants, retail shops, dentists, law firms. We took a different path. At Bookkeeping Champs, we made a deliberate choice to serve one type of client and serve them extraordinarily well: CSLB-licensed contractors across California.
That focus wasn’t accidental. It came from watching too many roofing contractors, plumbers, electricians, and HVAC companies struggle with bookkeepers who didn’t understand job costing. Who didn’t know what a DIR-registered contractor needed. Who didn’t understand the difference between a subcontractor and a W-2 employee under California labor law. Who had never heard of prevailing wage — let alone helped a contractor navigate certified payroll.
We’ve worked alongside contractors building homes in Chatsworth, managing commercial projects in Burbank, running roofing crews in Oxnard, and installing HVAC systems across Ventura County. We’ve seen firsthand what happens when a contractor’s financial systems don’t match the complexity of the work they do. Cash disappears. Profits shrink. The IRS knocks.
Bookkeeping Champs exists to make sure that never happens to our clients.
What Makes Us Different: The Contractor-Only Advantage
When you call Bookkeeping Champs, you’re not talking to a generalist who handles 40 different industries. You’re talking to a team that speaks your language — job costing, change orders, retention billing, subcontractor management, CSLB license classifications, and California labor law.
📐 We Know Job Costing
General bookkeepers track income and expenses. We track costs at the job level — labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, overhead. You see exactly which jobs are making money and which are bleeding it.
📋 We Know California’s Rules
DIR registration, prevailing wage, certified payroll, AB 5 compliance, EDD quarterly filings — we know what California requires of CSLB contractors and we keep our clients compliant.
⚡ We Know QuickBooks for Contractors
We set up and manage QuickBooks Online and Desktop specifically for contractor workflows — including the contractor-specific chart of accounts, job costing classes, customer:job tracking, and subcontractor 1099 management.
💰 We Know Contractor Tax Deductions
Section 179, vehicle and equipment deductions, tools and supplies, home office, insurance premiums, subcontractor costs — we make sure you never leave money on the table come tax season.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bookkeeping Champs
Do you only work with California contractors?
Our primary focus is CSLB-licensed contractors in Los Angeles County, Ventura County, and Kern County. We understand California’s specific regulations — DIR, prevailing wage, EDD, CSLB compliance — better than anyone. We may accept out-of-state contractor clients on a case-by-case basis.
Do I need QuickBooks to work with you?
Not necessarily, though we strongly recommend it. We specialize in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop for contractors. If you’re using another system (Xero, FreshBooks, Wave), we can work with you and help you migrate to a better platform if needed.
How much does your contractor bookkeeping service cost?
Our pricing starts at $400/month for basic monthly bookkeeping and goes up based on the volume of transactions, number of active jobs, and whether payroll is included. See our pricing page for details, or call (818) 679-4451 for a free 15-minute consultation.
Can you handle contractors who use subcontractors?
Absolutely — subcontractor management is one of our specialties. We handle 1099 filing, subcontractor certificates of insurance tracking, payment tracking, and lien waiver management. We know the difference between a legitimate subcontractor and a misclassified employee under California AB 5.
